Overview
In a lush Mediterranean garden
Villa Puglia is a large historic sea view villa in a in a lush Mediterranean garden only 50 m from the sea. Located on the Adriatic coast in the south of Italy (the heel), it is a delightful and romantic setting, surrounded by gardens planted with unusual and exotic plants, there is a small pool, and there are gorgeous views over the surrounding pine trees and palms down to the blue water.
The villa is one of those exceptional sites where Italian civilization comes alive each summer. This sumptuous dwelling (500 sqm living space and 1 ha garden), summer residence to Dukes since the 19th century, is still owned by a descendent, who has preserved its authentic atmosphere. The villa overlooks the Adriatic Sea: its private alley lined with century old trees leads down to the small port of Tricase with its multi-colored fishing boats and inviting to a swim in his clear waters.
The property consists of the main villa (430 m²) and two small annex buildings (70 m²) . In the main villa a total of 10 people can be accommodated. Upon request and for an additional fee, 6 additional beds can be added opening the two annex buildings bringing the total capacity of the villa to 16 guests.
Villa: Of classical style, the white villa stands out amidst a layered landscaped filled with pine, olive and palm trees. A vast arcaded loggia with its immense shaded terrace opens out onto a view of the sea. The central part of the villa is composed of three dome shaped reception rooms built of stone. The kitchen and washing area are located in the rear. Two lateral staircases lead up to the upper floor, where two sections are diveded by a terrace. The villa contains three king size bed suites, one twin bedroom, all with their own bath plus an additional small bedroom with bunk beds.
Annex buildings: Two additional and separate accommodations are located in the lower courtyard, composed of three bedrooms (one king size bed suite and two twin bedrooms), plus two bathrooms. Please note that the interior of the annex buildings is simple and functional. Please also have look at the floor plan.
Walk to the small village! At Tricase porto (approx. 150 m distant) you will find a grocery shop, three restaurants, two pizzerias and two bars, and the small harbor has a very small beach too. In the larger village Tricase (3 km) there is a bank, post office, pharmacy and a supermarket.

Magical Villa!
Left on Jul 2, 2018 for a stay in Jun 2018
We recently returned from our week at Villa Puglia. My family of 5 decided on Salento as an area of Italy very few friends of ours had even travelled to. Upon arrival we were met by Anna the owner and from that moment forward the grand old villa came to life! The villa itself is just as advertised in photos and has so much incredible history. The house is huge. Plenty of room for a large or small family to roam around and spread out and enjoy. The local town of Tricase Porto was perfect and we swam in the ocean every day in the morning and late afternoon. You can walk to the bakery to pick up breakfast or grab a coffee. The location was ideal for trips to the beach, Lecce, Otranto, Gallipoli and more. We had Antoinella cook dinner for us 5 of the 7 nights and that was our favorite part of each day. What a wonderful lady and cook. We loved the villa so much we have already reserved the same week for June 2019 and plan to bring a few more family this time to experience it!
A little piece of paradise

We had a fantastic stay at Villa Puglia. The house was perfect for our group of 15, seven of whom were children. The location was perfect. There is a pool on the property and the beach is just across the street past the ice cream stand. There was plenty of room in the house and on the property for the group to spread out and come together as the day progressed. Maria Rosaria and Manni were there to maintain the property and help out every day. They couldn't have been nicer. We hired Donnatta, a local woman, to cook for us for three nights. We wish we had used her for more nights. She was extremely affordable and did the shopping and cleaned up after. Ask Maria Rosaria to put you in touch once you get there. Overall, we had a fantastic visit to villa puglia. The only draw back was the Mosquitos. Bring something for the bites.

Beautiful Villa ideally situated in pictoreque Tricase

Beautiful villa will exceed your expectations and transport you to a time when dukes and countessas were the patrons of this quaint, magical port of Tricase. The eloquence, grandeur and majestic nature of the villa creates a lovely ambience to enjoy with family and friends. The scent of the adriatic will lure you into the ancient arms of the southern Italian Puglia coast. Be sure to tour the Guarini family vineyards that belong to the villa to experience the wine of the region. Let the cook make your group regional specialities. The pool is great to cool down especially if you are visiting in august. Salute Ciao. Francoise Coupal

Puglia, the "heel" of the boot of Italy, has only recently gained popularity as a holiday destination as travelers become aware of the natural beauty of its landscapes and the wealth of fascinating towns with Greek, Norman and Caracen-influenced architecture, and the magnificent Baroque cathedrals in Lecce and other nearby towns.
With stunning landscapes of ancient olive trees and two coastlines of pristine beaches, Puglia offers magical scenery, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, unique "trulli" architecture, caves, castles, great shopping and some of the best food and wine in Italy. Puglia is the largest producer of oilive oil in Italy and has more than 50 million olive trees, including some that are a thousand years old.
From Tricase Porto you can roam throughout Salento and can make wonderful excursions to some of Puglia's most memorable locales: visit the east coast of Salento with its magnificent cliffs hovering over its turquoise sea with grottos and creeks, and the west coast offers 50 kilometers of white sand beachs from Santa Maria di Leuca to Gallipoli; the city of Lecce, pearl of Italian baroque; the fortified ports of Otranto and Gallipoli; Santa Maria di Leuca, finibus terrae, followed by a swim in the crystal blue sea. A bit further, you can visit the legendary towns of Taranto with its Hellenistic museum, Alberobello, home of many ancient Trulli, the Sassi of Matera, the sublime Castel del Monte, the Normand churches of Bari, Trani, Barletta and Ruvo. Visit the amazing seaside town of Ostuni and the spectacular Torre Guaceto.
Otranto is 30 km from the villa. It has a stunning coastal location where you can combine morning visits to churches with an afternoon swimming in the clean, impossibly turquoise sea. It’s just 72 km from Albania and its location has resulted in many invasions, the worst of which was the Turkish siege in 1480 when they destroyed much of the city and tortured and killed its people. Otranto’s principal attraction is the Cathedral with its mosaic floor built in 1163-1165 - it survived the Turkish invasion although parts of the Cathedral were destroyed. It’s one of the largest mosaics in Europe and covers the entire floor. Its central motif is the Tree of Life, supported at the base by elephants, a symbol of purity, with branches telling different pagan and biblical stories. Another tree near the front of the church depicts heaven on one side and grizzly scenes from hell on the other. In the chapel you can see the human remains of the 800 martyrs who resisted the Turkish invasion and refused to convert to Islam. The empty sockets of hundreds of skulls stare down at you in stark contrast to the beauty of the mosaic floor.
Lecce, 50 km distant, is known for its exuberant baroque architecture in the golden Leccese stone of the area, its churches lavishly decorated with cherubs, gargoyles and griffins, and delicately carved columns and cornices. Lecce is one of Puglia’s larger cities but it’s still a walkable size, and it manages to be both lively and relaxed.
Artisanal gelato is always around the corner and you are never more than a few minutes from the sparkling sea. The cuisine of Puglia features fresh seafood, and its wines are renowned, particularly the reds from Salento and the refreshing whites from Locorotondo and Gravina. All around there are many lovely restaurants with typical "cucina salentina" as well as artcraft shops of ceramics and fabrics. At the end of the day, come home to your villa to relax over a glass of wine, overlooking the garden, and the sea all around you.
A direct train connects Rome to Lecce (6 hours), from Lecce to Tricase Porto there is another train connection (1.5 hours). The villa is 3 km distant from Tricase Porto. A car is recommanded in this region.
