Apartment Zar is a spacious and luxury apartment, a portion of a magnificent 19th century Liberty-style villa in Laglio. The location is excellent: just 500 m from the famous George Clooney's residence and close to the world famous resort Villa d’Este. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance (500 m/550 yds), and the lake shore can be reached in a 5-minute walk. Como is just a 15-minute drive away.
An imposing iron gate gives access to the historic villa, which has been totally renovated to a very high standard. The prestigious apartment is built on two floors: the accommodation develops on the entire main floor of the villa plus the basement on garden level.
The apartment offers breathtaking views of Lake Como from several rooms, including the large and light flooded living room (with one full wall of windows) and the master bedroom. It also has a private garden (250 sqm/2700 sq ft).
The main floor is luxurious and contains the main living/dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, the master bedroom and a twin bedroom.
The basement on garden level is a seperate apartment with independent access from garden; it can also be accessed from the staircase. It contains a bedroom with two single beds, a kitchenette and a fitness room. And while it is comfortable, cozy and very private, it is not as luxurious as the main floor. For this reason, we recommend Apartment Zar for one or two couples with older children.
Apartment Zar has an independent entrance from the garden, overlooking well-kept lawns and the lake. In the corner of the manicured garden is a hot tub for four people where guests can relax and enjoy the stunning lake views. A sun terrace is furnished with sunbeds and deckchairs. A patio with vaulted ceilings overlooking the lake is equipped with a large dining table. Private parking for two cars is inside the property. Due to the high quality of furnishings children between 1 and 12 are admitted only upon request and supervised by a nanny.
The convenient location, just 8 km from Cernobbio and 14 km from the center of Como, and easy access to public transportation makes Apartment Zar an ideal destination for touring Lake Como. A lot of activities such as water sports, golf, tennis and great shopping are possible. The closest train station is in Como, just 15 minutes from the villa. You can reach Milan in 1 hour by car, or you can cross the border at Lugano to reach Switzerland in just 40 minutes. Just across the Swiss border is Foxtown a designer outlet village with Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci and Ferragamo outlets.

The Most Beautiful Villa
My three adult children, my son-in-law, and my husband and I stayed in this magical villa in late September/early October. We were greeted by Ekaterina, who gave us a thorough tour of her beautiful property. She also was so helpful in arranging a driver to meet us at the train station in Milan as well as a driver to take us to the airport on the day we left. She also arranged for us the most amazing private boat tour of Lake Como. Additionally, she stocked the refrigerator with groceries we requested, and she helped us make dinner reservations at nearby restaurants. She truly went above and beyond. The villa with something out of a movie. It has been perfectly restored to its original glory, and the view of the lake from the living room and the two bedrooms was breathtaking. The bathrooms are lovely, the villa is spacious, and there are air conditioners in most of the rooms for when the temperatures were warmer outside. The villa is set in a quiet neighborhood, and the only problem we had was finding a convenient place to eat dinner because the neighborhood restaurant that is five minutes away had closed early for the season. We were able to find restaurants which required us to walk about 20 minutes both ways, but we needed the exercise considering all the pasta we were eating. I cannot recommend this wonderful place more highly. We would come back here in a minute. We just felt so lucky to stay here.

We recently stayed at the villa for a long weekend and enjoyed it so much we extended for 2 extra days! The villa itself is bright, inviting and comfortable! The views are breathtaking and Caterina the host was a delight! She was readily available and patiently helped us learn about the area from boats to great restaurants! She is literally one of those people you feel like you have been friends for a long time! We most certainly will return!!!

Luxury on Lake Como
We had a wonderful experience during our stay. This is one of the most beautiful villas in the area, in fact so beautiful that you may not want to leave to do anything else! Our host was very accommodating and helpful from start to finish and provided us some wonderful recommendations throughout our visit. We especially loved the boat excursion and private chef's dinner she arranged for us! Plan to bring your food and favorite beverages and just enjoy the scenery outside from the spacious veranda overlooking the lake!

We recently enjoyed a stay here. The property more than exceeded our expectations! The location is wonderful, the property beautiful and the views amazing. Ekaterina was extremely helpful in helping us navigate our way to the location and also responsive whenever we had any issues during the stay. This is an amazing location and property. We were 2 couples and felt we had more then enough room for everyone easily sharing spaces and having the privacy we liked. The house, jacuzzi and the ground around as are immaculately maintained and have everything you would ever need. The location of the villa is perfect for touring the lake. When we felt lazy there were many spots to simply relax and gaze and drawing the wonderful views.

Wonderful Experience - Fantastic Destination Host
The property is even better than pictured. The owner also took on the role of destination host and helped us figure out transportation and restaurant reservations and boat charters which was completely above and beyond. I am type A so I like an extremely clean and neat environment and this villa was perfect for me. I would stay there again and I would highly recommend it to anyone else looking for a respite palace in paradise. The view from the front porch (and the main living room just behind it) is to die for. There is a giant table on that porch where we began each day with coffee and ended with a fabulous glass of that incredible Italian wine.

Wonderful Stay
Our stay at Caterina’s house in Lake Como was truly amazing. The location is ideal, the house is even better than pictured, and the views are fabulous. The house has every amenity you could need for a comfortable stay, including a fully stocked kitchen, air conditioning, and blackout shades for sleeping. What really made our stay stand out, however, was Caterina’s hosting. She arranged dinner reservations for us, suggested places to see and things to do on the lake, got us groceries for breakfast, booked a delightful boat tour of the lake, and arranged for a truly delicious private chef one night (very possibly the best meal we had on our stay in Italy). A cleaner also came twice during our nearly week long stay which was very helpful. I could not recommend this place more highly, it has been one of our best vacation stays. If you are considering - do not hesitate, just book!!

Absolutely perfect
Words can’t describe how lovely the villa is. Everything was as described. Location incredible. But the most amazing part was the host. Without a doubt the best host we have ever experienced at a villa rental. She handled everything for us Far beyond our expectations. Our only regret was leaving after 4 days. Next trip will be much longer.

For two families property is ideal. The master bedroom is very large and allowed for the infant to sleep in the parents room undisturbed. The second bedroom was perfect for us as grandparents. However we took advantage of the downstairs third bedroom for privacy on occasion. The property has electronic outdoor window shades that darkens rooms at night and minimizes heat transfer in the afternoons. The views were fabulous! The living area/dining area was very large and well furnished. The kitchen was perfect to make a quick meal or an omelette for breakfast. The laundry room was downstairs and allowed us to keep our personal items laundered for our two week stay. The property was only about a 10 minute walk to the lake where there was a choice of restaurants and a nearby park for our infant daughter to enjoy with her parents. The property is only about a 15 to 20 minute car ride to major towns and with stores. The owner was very helpful in preparing the property for us and arranging for a high chair and the few grocery items we needed for the first few days. She also recommended great restaurants and obtained reservations for us with the best table for great views. We really liked the housekeeper too to keep beds made and fresh towels.

Villa Castiglioni is wonderful! And the views are straight from a travel magazine. Caterina is a fabulous host, responding immediately to every question we had. She even provided taxi service from Cernobbio when we got stuck there upon arrival. Laglio is a lovely little town, with cafes, restaurants and incredibly friendly people. This was the most relaxing vacation we've ever had.

A very special place in a special area.
This villa on lake Como is very special. The way this villa has been restored, updated and cared for is simply incredible. The grounds were beautiful, and anything we could possibly need was in the villa. Our hosts were very helpful, friendly and genuinely cared about our comfort and enjoyment. Inside the villa, the furnishings were really nice and comfortable. The views of the lake from all the windows were just amazing. Lake Como is truly a magical place and this villa makes enjoying it special Convenient central location to explore all the lake region has to offer. In life you get what you pay for. This was worth every penny for a truly special experience. Highly recommend it, and we will return.

Activities
Many small towns and villages surround Lake Como. They are quaint and beautiful and it’s worthwhile exploring them. If you spend the mornings on the west side and the afternoons on the east side of the lake, you will always stay in the sun.
Steamers, boats, car ferries and buses serve all the main towns on Lake Como. A ferry around the heart of Lake Como (between the key towns of Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio and Cadenabbia) is a must. The most popular of the stops remains Bellagio.
Bellagio - known as the pearl of the lake is a beautiful little town in a picture-perfect location on the promontory where Lake Como separates into two branches. The town is historic and charming, with a waterfront promenades, stately hotels and two gardens open to the public: Villa Serbelloni and Villa Melzi. Bellagio's tourist information offices are by the ferry jetty and in Piazza della Chiesa.
Menaggio is located on the western shore of Lake Como, and has small stretches of shingle beach. From Menaggio you can travel to Lake Lugano or embark on mountain hikes. The town is a useful base for exploring Lake Como; with good bus and ferry connections.
The fishing village of Varenna has picturesque narrow alleyways and streets below a castle and a lakeside walking path. Varenna is a peaceful resort, smaller than Bellagio and also very beautiful. You can admire views from the Castello di Vezio or simply relax by the lakeside.
In Tremezzo visit Villa Carlotta - a villa and botanical garden. The villa is today a museum, whose art collection includes works by Canova, Thorvaldsen, Migliara and Hayez in addition to pieces of furniture from the time of the various owners.
The walled town of Como is a lively and pleasant town with an appealing historical centre and a scenic location at the southern end of the east branch of Lake Como. The impressive cathedral (Duomo), like most in Italy, was built and added to over a period of centuries, so you can admire Gothic and Renaissance features including some fine tapestries and paintings. The town's earlier cathedral (built in the tenth century), San Fedele, is another fine sight, as are the tall nine-hundred-year-old gateway, Porta Vittoria, and the Romanesque church Sant'Abbondio. The town's art gallery (Pinacoteca) is also worth a visit. For a short trip out of town, take the funicular up to the top of the hill above Como, where you can enjoy spectacular views.
Lake Como and the region is a shopper’s paradise. Around Como there are many small shops and boutiques, and in the larger towns you will find a great range of boutiques, designer stores and department stores. Wherever you are you are never far from great shopping.
Como is an interesting place to shop because of its local flavor. There are very elegant stores in Como that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Some of the world’s greatest designers are found in Como. Perhaps the nicest discount silk store (Mantero VIII) is found on the outskirts of Como.
Como is only a few minutes' drive from the Swiss border and from Lake Lugano. Cross the border into Switzerland and visit Foxtown Factory Stores, a temple of luxury and elegance with 3 km of shop windows, where 160 stores. The world famous mall that has every imaginable brand name store (Armani, Gucci, Prada, Loro Piano, Yves St. Laurent, Ferragamo, Versace, Missoni, Bally, Bruno Magli, Dolce and Gabbana, Cerrutti……to literally name only a few) at discounted prices. The mall sells last year’s fashions at prices that seem a third of what can be found in Milan.
Then of course there is Milan. Milan is a short train-ride away for those in search of some city life. Milan has been crowned the fashion capital of the world thanks to designers such as Versace, Prada and Armani. Via Monte Napoleone and Via della Spiga with its designer showrooms and boutiques are two of the most elegant, if expensive, shopping streets in Europe. Milan also has sections of town dedicated to antiques, art and house supplies.
In Milan is to see Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper. In the heart of Milan is the rose-colored marble Gothic Duomo. Not far from the Duomo is the world’s most famous opera house - La Scala. Throughout the city are symbols of Milan’s illustrious past including the 16 Corinthian-style columns from early Roman settlements. These are placed just outside the 4th century Basilica di San Lorenzo. Also impressive is the Sforza Castle and Museum of Ancient Art. St. Ambrose’s Basilica and Museum is interesting as the Basilica was founded in the 4th century by the Bishop Ambrose who baptized St. Augustine here.
Lake Como boasts some of the very finest Italian cuisine, and is home to a number of world-class restaurants. Check out the back streets and old lakeside towns to find some of the less well known but excellent restaurants.
Lake Como boat hire is possibly the finest way to experience the Lake in its full splendour. One has not seen Lake Como if it hasn’t been experienced from the water. There are numerous touring companies that can take large or small groups for tours of the lake which can include a refreshing swim in the lake. A wonderful day is to take the morning to explore the lake by boat. Stop for a long lunch at the Locanda dell’ Isola Comacina and return to the Villa by late afternoon.
Outdoor Activities: biking, mountain biking, hiking, boating, paragliding and windsurfing.
There are numerous hikes and walking trails in and around Lake Como. Around the lake, through the woodlands and up through the hills and mountains offer an enormous variety of hiking possibilities, from easy walks for families to the more difficult for skilled hikers.
For water sports lovers it is possible to spend entire days sailing or kayaking, windsurfing and motor boating, water skiing and canoeing, wakeboarding and kitesurfing. In Como there is even a hydroplane piloting school.
Lake Como can also be dicovered by bicycle. Scenic roads, and alternative routes to those followed by the main traffic and some real cycle paths offer the visitor an alternative way of visiting various parts of the lake.
Lake Como has also several golf courses which can be easily reached by car. 8 Golf courses are within 50 km from the villa: Golf Club Carimate, Golf Club Menaggio & Cadenabbia, Golf Club Lanzo, Golf Club Ponticello, La Pinetina Golf Club, Golf Club le Robinie, Golf Club Villa d'Este, Green Club Lainate.
